What garage door is best for me
Ten years ago l bought an overhead 16' garage door that was a sandwich of
steel and insulating foam. This week it delaminated, so l need a new one.It
is a detached garage so l do not need insulation.I am hesitant to get the
same kind. What about a wood door?Is a 16' wood door too heavy for the
opener?
The wood door won't be too heavy for the opener, as the
installers will use a heavier duty spring. The load on the opener will be
about the same.
A wood door requires a lot more maintenance than a steel door. It will
need to be painted every couple of years. Just one factor to consider.
You don't need an insulated door if the garage is detached, but you can go with a non-insulated steel or aluminum door. It is basically maintenance free, & lighter than wood if the spring ever breaks. Hope this helps.
wooden and steel garage doors for the home are passe' .
