Check the torsion spring over the door. More likely than not,

one of them is broken. You will see a separation in the broken spring.

If ur car is stuck in the garage, you can get it out with the help of a  
friend. One of you push the button on the opener while the other one  
lifts the door. It is kind of heavy, but you still have one spring
